Seoul Museum of Art Archive

The Seoul Museum of Art Archive is a museum where records and art come together. The art archive follows the traces of Korean contemporary art left by various individuals and groups, selecting, collecting, preserving, and researching numerous records and materials. It also builds relationships with diverse users through activities mediated by the archive and establishes new frameworks for art. The Seoul Museum of Art Archive consists of three buildings: the Collection Building, the Learning Building, and the Sharing Building. The Collection Building is a space for preservation, research, and exhibition of the art archive, designed in the form of a combination of four rectangular prisms while maintaining the existing sloped terrain. The rooftop connected by a ramp serves as a leisurely garden where the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art harmonize, linking the interior and exterior of the museum. On the first and second floors, there are an archive lounge, exhibition rooms, and a reference library where art books can be freely browsed. The third-floor Research Lab is a space for viewing and researching the art archive. The Learning Building is a space for learning and playing together through the art archive. The wide staircase on the first floor is used for seminars and lecture programs, while the second floor houses the Everyone's Classroom, where various educational programs and learning activities take place. The Sharing Building is a space composed of a cafe and a multi-purpose hall. On the first floor facing Hongjecheon Stream, there is a cafe where coffee, tea, and bakery items can be enjoyed. On the second floor, the multi-purpose hall hosts public programs such as academic events, performances, and screenings.
