서울특별시 종로구 성균관로4길 45 (명륜2가)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Straw and grass have not been used as names to distinguish eras like the Stone Age or Iron Age, but as universal materials that have been with humanity for the longest time, they have been widely used in dietary life and overall residential life. This straw culture, which continued for thousands of years, rapidly disappeared due to the influence of the Saemaul Undong (New Community Movement) and industrialization policies in the 1970s. Jipul Life History Museum is a private museum established in 1993 to preserve the straw culture containing the wisdom of ancestors, research its utilization methods, and pass it down to descendants. Currently, the museum houses over 63,000 artifacts, including straw life tools, agricultural tools, Joseon Dynasty hanok doors, tops from around the world, folk materials, as well as archive materials such as photos, videos, and audio recordings. In addition, through at least one special exhibition each year, it reinterprets straw culture from a modern perspective and continues ongoing communication with visitors. Address: 45, Seonggyun-gwan-ro 4-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul (Myeongnyun 2-ga)
