Son Kee-chung Memorial Hall

The Son Kee-chung Memorial Hall was established to honor the spirit of Son Kee-chung (1936 Berlin Olympic marathon gold medalist), who raised the pride of the Korean people by conquering the world during a difficult time when the country was lost. It opened on October 14, 2012, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. The building is a remodeled structure of Yangjeonguisuk, Son Kee-chung's alma mater (21st graduating class), built in 1918 in Malli-dong, developed as an international sports tourism resource. The exhibition features content centered on Son Kee-chung's life story leading up to his Berlin Olympic marathon victory, along with episodes that highlight the importance of the nation and the people, with visitor participation elements placed throughout to enhance understanding and immersion. Differentiated from existing memorial halls, it provides enjoyable and rich visual experiences and opportunities for correct historical awareness for both adults and children through animated videos and interactive games.
