서울특별시 마포구 신촌로12나길 26 (노고산동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The Lee Han-yeol Memorial Hall was established in 2004 with compensation money received by the martyr's mother from the state and citizen donations to preserve and restore the relics of Lee Han-yeol. It was newly opened as a private museum in 2014. This museum preserves, researches, and educates about the history of democracy through exhibitions of the June 1987 Uprising records, including the personal belongings of Lee Han-yeol. At the Lee Han-yeol Memorial Hall, artist Choi Byung-soo's Dream Sotdae is erected on the rooftop, a mural by artist Kim Ya-cheon adorns the garden wall, and a mosaic mural by artist Lee Kyung-bok greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition hall. On the wall connecting the 3rd and 4th floors of the exhibition hall, there is a portrait painting that led the funeral procession. The 4th floor permanent exhibition hall displays the clothes and shoes he wore when he collapsed, along with photos and personal items. Additionally, visitors can see Lee Han-yeol's biography, the photo of the shooting scene captured by journalist Jung Tae-won (Reuters), his middle and high school belongings and writings, and records of the June Uprising.
