Sajik Park (Seoul)

Jongno-gu has three famous parks: Tapgol Park, Sajik Park, and Samcheong Park. Located west of the Government Complex-Seoul and at the southeastern foot of Inwangsan Mountain, Sajik Park covers a total area of 188,710㎡ and was created around Sajikdan (Historic Site), which was first built in 1395 by King Taejo Yi Seong-gye of the Joseon Dynasty along with Jongmyo Shrine. The term 'sajik' means 'sa' (the god of the earth) and 'jik' (the god of grains), and Sajikdan was a place where rituals were held to pray for a bountiful harvest. The park features a children's playground, statues of scholar Yulgok Yi I and his mother Sin Saimdang, an archery field (Hwanghakjeong), and the Seoul Metropolitan Children's Library. Nearby are Dangunseongjeon Shrine and Jongno Library. Walking about 5 minutes along the Inwangsan Mountain path next to Sajik Park leads to the Inwangsan hiking trail.
