Why travelers stop here
Ganggyeong Modern History Street is a modern historical and cultural street created in Ganggyeong-eup, Nonsan-si. Ganggyeong was a prosperous area in modern times, centered around the Geumgang River port, forming a commercial district connected to the West Sea. With the opening of the Honam Line railway in 1911, it became a transportation hub, further developing commerce and distribution. However, as Gunsan Port grew and the Geumgang River transport declined, it lost its function as a commercial center. Today, many cultural properties remain here that show the history of Ganggyeong's prosperous era. Representative examples include the former Ganggyeong Labor Union (now Ganggyeong History and Culture Information Center), the former Hanil Bank Ganggyeong Branch (now Ganggyeong History Museum), the former Yeonsudang Geonjae Herbal Medicine Pharmacy, Ganggyeong Jungang Elementary School Auditorium, Ganggyeong Cathedral, and the former Ganggyeong Seonggagyeol Church Chapel. Ganggyeong Modern History Street is accessible via National Route 23, Local Route 68, and Local Route 799. The nearest highways are the Nonsan-Cheonan Expressway's Yeonmu IC and the Honam Expressway Branch's Nonsan IC. For public transportation, you can use Ganggyeong Station on the Honam Line railway and the Ganggyeong Bus Terminal. Nearby attractions include Ganggyeong Salted Seafood Market, Ganggyeong Port, Jukrim Seowon, and Palgwaejeong.
