Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Designated as Gyeongpo Provincial Park on June 26, 1982 (area 9.471㎢, Gangwon-do Notice No. 90), this area was centered around Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpo Lake, and Gyeongpo Beach, located about 6km north of downtown Gangneung-si, and contained many cultural properties and monuments. Some areas were later released, and the current area is 6.865㎢, including Gyeongpo Lake (water chestnut habitat), Sunpo Wetland, Gyeonghojeong pine forest area, and Sacheon coastal pine forest area. In particular, Gyeongpo Lake is a place where natural monuments such as swans and mallards arrive. Gyeongpodae, one of the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong, is famous as a place for watching the full moon on Daeboreum. In the past, fishing in Gyeongpo Lake was enough to enhance the leisure of visitors, but now it is a protected natural area and fishing is prohibited.
