Gunhang Village History Trail

경상남도 창원시 진해구 충장로 71 (여좌동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gunhang Village is a center of modern history, bearing the pain of the Japanese colonial period. In 1912, during the Japanese colonial era, Japan built a planned city in Jinhae Jungang-dong. In this process, the residents who lived there were forcibly evicted, and the city area was entirely taken over by the Japanese. Japan created eight radial orthogonal city streets centered around a 1,200-year-old hackberry tree located here. As a remnant of this, modern historical buildings can be seen in Gunhang Village. On the Gunhang Village History Trail, there are the Suyang Hall, which was used as a Japanese military guard post, the Jinhae Post Office, a maple wooden building, and the residence of the commander of the Naval Port Hospital.
