Soyangho Lake (Chuncheon)

Soyangho Lake is an artificial lake located in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do. It was created by the Soyanggang Dam, the largest sand and gravel dam in Asia, which was built by damming the Soyang River in October 1973. With an area of 1,608 hectares, a storage capacity of approximately 2.9 billion tons, a straight-line water distance of 60 km, and a water distance measured along the curves of 120 km, it boasts the largest scale in Korea and is called the 'inland sea.' Around the Soyanggang Dam, walking paths and trails have been established, and on the 2.5 km round-trip course from the top to the Palgakjeong Pavilion, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of Soyangho Lake. Taking a cruise from the Soyanggang Pier allows you to visit Cheongpyeongsa Temple, a temple from the Goryeo Dynasty, and the sight of leisurely floating on the clear lake is deeply moving. At the top of the dam, various convenience facilities such as restaurants, coffee shops, the Water Culture Center, and rest areas are available. The Water Culture Center is open to the public free of charge, making it a good place to explore together.
