Deoksansa Shrine (Geumsan)

충청남도 금산군 부리면 배정이길 37

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Deoksansa Shrine is a clan shrine of the Miryang Park clan located in Baejeong-i Village, Buri-myeon, at the foot of Deokgibong Peak in Geumsan. It enshrines the mortuary tablets of Nuljae Park Jung-yeong, Gangsu Park Hun, and Tewoodang Park Sa-hyeon. Park Jung-yong was a civil official during the reigns of King Yejong and King Seongjong of Joseon, making great contributions to the establishment of the early Joseon cultural and institutional systems. His son, Park Hun, served as an official during the reigns of King Yeonsangun and King Jungjong but was exiled after falling victim to the Gimyo Literati Purge. Meanwhile, Park Sa-hyeon, the son of Park Hun, distinguished himself in the capture of Cheongju Fortress during the Imjin War and died in battle. In 1961, local Confucian scholars and descendants built the shrine and hold an annual spring ritual to honor the loyalty of these three men. In 1985, it was designated as a Cultural Heritage Material of Chungcheongnam-do.
