Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Deoktaesan Mountain is a 1,113m high mountain located in Baegun-myeon, Jinan-gun. It forms the backbone of the Jinan Plateau, where the Honam Jeongmaek ridge passes through Satgatbong Peak and flows through Seongsusan Mountain, Maisan Mountain, and Bugyisan Mountain. Notably, at the foot of Ogyechi on the southern side of Deoktaesan Mountain lies Demisam Spring, the source of the Seomjin River, making it a significant mountain. This mountain features rocky ridges, dense forests with natural mysteries, and outstanding scenery, including the famous Baegundong Valley and Jeonjin Waterfall, attracting many visitors as a summer resort and a silver grass field in autumn. Hiking Deoktaesan Mountain starts from Baegundong Valley in Baegun-myeon. From the summit, you can see Satgatbong Peak, Seongaksan Mountain, and even Palgongsan Mountain, as well as distant views of Maisan Mountain, Bugyisan Mountain, Unjangsan Mountain, and Gubongsan Mountain. Next to Deoktaesan Mountain is Hongdukkaejae (Hongdugwaechi). Deoktaesan Mountain has abundant wild bamboo, much of which grows taller than a person. In spring, many rhododendrons, azaleas, mountain magnolias, and trout lilies bloom, and in February each year, gorosoe sap is collected. Nearby attractions include Waryong Natural Recreation Forest, Demisam Natural Recreation Forest, Seongsusan Natural Recreation Forest, and Seongsusan Mountain.
