Why travelers stop here

This memorial hall honors Godang Jo Nam-sik, a thinker and independence activist who practiced nonviolent non-resistance and is called the Gandhi of Joseon. He led the March 1st Movement in 1919, organized the Korean Products Promotion Movement in 1920, and led the anti-trusteeship movement after liberation. In 1970, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation (Taegeuk). The memorial hall displays photographic records on the walls, including a chronology of Godang Jo Man-sik, his handwritten calligraphy (1932), a poster for the Korean Products Promotion Movement, and a photo of the unveiling ceremony of his statue. The statue built in 1976 to honor him is located in Seoul Children's Grand Park in Gwangjin-gu.
