Why travelers stop here
Ganggyeong Ongnyeobong Peak is a low peak at an elevation of 44m located along the Geumgang River in Ganggyeong-eup, Nonsan-si. It is one of the Nonsan 8 Scenic Spots, featuring a park, and offers excellent views of Ganggyeong town and the Geumgang River from Songjaejeong (pavilion) and the beacon fire station. From the pavilion at Ongnyeobong Peak, the view is open in all directions, and the Nonsan Plain comes into full view. On clear days, Buyeo and Iksan are visible, and the harmony of the plain and river with distant mountains in the background resembles a watercolor painting. The peak holds a legend that on a full moon night, heavenly maidens descended to this hilltop to enjoy the beautiful scenery and bathed in the clear river water. The Ongnyeobong beacon fire station received signals from Gwangduwonsan in Iksan, Jeonbuk, and relayed them to Hwanghwasanseong Fortress and Noseong Beacon Fire Station. Just below Songjaejeong, there is the site of Korea's first Baptist church worship, attracting many visitors on pilgrimages.
